Part 2: After the demolition of a total of 164 buildings at Radio Row and the construction of the Bathtub to protect the site from the Hudson River, the North Tower finally begun to rises from its foundation: The top picture shows the construction of the inner core and basement in March 1969.

The lower left one was taken in June 1969 with the kangaroo cranes clearly visible on top of the core during construction of the 11th floor with the New York Telephone Building in the background.

And the lower right one shows the stage of construction in September 1969 when the North Tower reaches the 26th floor.

The E-Team (an artist group) was part of the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council Views/Studioscape programs that allowed them and other artists to work at the World Trade Center on the 91st and 92nd floor of the North Tower. One of their projects was "127 illuminated windows". They wanted to illuminate 127 windows of 1 WTC from floors 89 to 95 to write their name on the buildings north face. The right picture shows the name as it was scheduled to appear. The lower pics on the left show some of the artists covering unnecessary windows. The top left picture shows the result as it finally appeared on 29th March 2001. Not perfect as they had planned it but you could recognize the name...
