⚠️ TRAVEL ALERT: GUATEMALA 🇬🇹

U.S. travelers near Volcán de Fuego, Antigua and Acatenango should remain alert following a significant eruption earlier this week.

Although volcanic activity has decreased, the eruption is not considered over. Approximately 1,700 people were evacuated after pyroclastic flows, lava flows and large ash plumes led to highway and school closures.

Heavy rain is now increasing the risk of lahars—fast-moving volcanic mudflows that can travel through river valleys even after an eruption subsides.

Travelers should:

🌋 Avoid restricted areas and volcano hikes
📱 Monitor official Guatemalan emergency alerts
🚧 Expect sudden road closures and transportation disruptions

Niger’s new anti-LGBTQ+ criminal law is now being enforced, and credible reports indicate that dozens of people suspected of being gay or le***an have been arrested.

The law imposes:
• Five to 10 years in prison for same-sex relations
• Substantial financial penalties
• Up to 20 years for organizing, supporting, or facilitating LGBTQ+ organizations or same-sex marriages

Human rights groups report that many LGBTQ+ people have gone into hiding, while some HIV-prevention and support services have suspended operations out of fear of arrest.

Because Niger is governed by a military regime with limited transparency, exact arrest figures remain difficult to verify. However, multiple credible sources agree that arrests have occurred and enforcement is underway.

LGBTQ+ clients—and anyone traveling with them—understand that identity, relationships, social-media activity, advocacy, and association with LGBTQ+ organizations may create serious legal and personal-safety risks.

✈️ International travel is shifting—but don’t expect airfare to fall automatically.

Global air-travel demand declined 1.7% in June compared with last year, according to IATA. At the same time, geopolitical uncertainty and rising fuel costs could continue putting upward pressure on ticket prices.

The takeaway for travelers? Flexibility, careful planning, and expert guidance matter more than ever. A drop in demand does not always mean a bargain is coming.
