How many downloads should you expect once you start doing SEO on a podcast?

Truth is, it depends on where the show is starting from and whether the strategy sticks. We've seen shows that were pretty neglected beforehand triple their downloads in a matter of weeks. We've also seen shows barely move, because the keyword strategy got tried once and then forgotten about.

Downloads aren't even the number to focus on. They jump around for reasons that have nothing to do with SEO, a big guest, a random spike.

What actually shows the work is paying off is keyword ranking.
Top 5 is where people actually find you. Below that, it's a spot nobody looks.



For shows just starting out, positions 6 through 15 are usually where the early wins show up. Rankings tend to shift in a couple weeks, real progress by week 3 or 4, and downloads usually start following around week 4 to 8. Give it 5 to 10 episodes before deciding either way.
