🌍 I went looking for Africa in Brazil… and found it everywhere.

From the food and faith to the music, language, and traditions, Salvador, Brazil is one of the most powerful African diaspora destinations I’ve ever visited.

In this episode of The Unfiltered World with P.A., my daughter and I explore a city where African culture didn’t disappear—it survived, evolved, and continues to thrive.

If you’re interested in Black travel, heritage tourism, genealogy, culture, or reconnecting with the African diaspora, I think you’ll find this journey fascinating.

Salvador, Brazil: Where Africa Never Left

Have you been to Salvador? What destination has made you feel most connected to the African diaspora?

06/12/2026

I’ve traveled to many countries, but few places have felt as connected to Africa as Salvador, Brazil.

From the food and music to the faith, traditions, and people, the African influence is everywhere. Walking these streets reminded me that the story of the African diaspora didn’t end with slavery—it evolved, survived, and continues to thrive.

In this episode, we explore the history, culture, and enduring African legacy that makes Salvador one of the most unique cities in the world.

It's time to stop the waste, fraud, and abuse that's holding our city back from prospering. We need to unite and demand better. This is a call to action for all of us.

Councilman Ronald Jenkins expresses confusion over the group's direction, questioning why they vote against opportunities to sell land, attract businesses, and foster development, especially when it doesn't involve their own funds. The core issue seems to be a disconnect between stated goals and voting behavior.

City Councilman William Kitchen: The state offered to take over our income tax department, but at what cost? They wanted 10 years of control, deciding everything. Our tax department should be self-sustaining, not a drain on general funds. I won't sell our city's future for a quick fix.

We're in a difficult position, but raising taxes is a necessary tough decision to save our city. These are choices we should have made years ago, but now we have no other option. If we don't act, the state will make decisions for us, and it won't be in our favor.

The state wants to absorb our departments, not take over the whole city. It's about benefiting without the liability. But once they're in, they won't leave for 10 years. That's not autonomy; that's being sold out. I can't sleep knowing I compromised any department.

A crucial hearing on a tax increase proposal is coming. Our city needs to understand the reality of our situation and why difficult choices are necessary. We can act now to save our city, or risk losing control.
