Our Story
We don’t rate golf courses; we write stories through the lens of the traveling golfer. We’re more interested in the memories made on golf courses. We like to talk to the people that shape the game and chat with the characters that make golf such a special experience. We love Pebble Beach, Pine Valley, St Andrews and the like, and share equal reverence for small town municipal golf courses. Also read WBGD for stylish apparel, new gear, equipment and helpful instruction from the WBGD Director of Instruction, Mark Wood. Thank you for reading.

This is the 238m par 3 5th. The 15th is rated the toughest hole in Australia at KOORALBYN VALLEY National and The Kooralbyn Valley
Our 17th is one of our favourite holes as well.
Thanks to World's Best Golf Destinations for sharing the pic ⛳️

Great Par 3’s in Golf
The 8th Hole - The Postage Stamp at Royal Troon, Scotland 🏴.
For such a short hole, it causes so many problems.
I have been fortunate enough to play here 3 times. Twice making a Par, with the other score being a 6, after taking 3 to get out of a Greenside Bunker

It is undeniably another great course; another great Scottish course and one enjoyed by all of our clients who have played it.
A links course in the traditional sense where the prevailing wind plays a massive part in how you will play each of the holes.
Sitting on the Ayrshire coast with views over to the Isle of Arran today’s course is the internationally regarded links at Western Gailes.
The course, like a few in this stretch, sits between the railway line from Glasgow and the coast and never more than two fairways wide between the two. It’s routing is four holes running north away from the clubhouse before 5-13 run south along the dunes on the coastal side of the course with the homeward holes back northwards running alongside the railway track to the clubhouse.
Dunes, pot bunkers, burns and superb greens make this a real test of golf but it’s not a monster so if you play to your strengths you will certainly enjoy your round. But don’t get too carried if you start well as any errant tee shots will soon serve up a reality check to confirm your real playing ability. ☹️
ps, being 5 up after 9 and finishing the match all square makes for a very long journey home.
Thanks Ian McCaig for a superb game over one of Ayrshire’s best and to everyone at Western Gailes Golf Club the course was in magnificent condition as always.
