Got teary today looking at my sticker from the trampoline park. It was my first time jumping. At 40. I got thinking of all I had to overcome physically, emotionally, and socially. Motion sickness, injuries, times where I was over the weight limit. Will I get hurt, will I be embarrassed, will people be looking at me, laughing at me? It may not seem like it, but this is a really big deal. I’m doing things at 40 that I didn’t know I was capable of. 🤯 I don’t love myself enough yet to do it for me, but I want to set an example for my girls (who I do love enough to do the hard stuff for) and along the way, I’m learning so much. In so many ways I’m being reborn (I guess that’s my midlife crisis?) and I’m just so damn thankful that I got to go jump at a trampoline park with my family. I didn’t know it was something that would feel so impactful, but that’s the real gem of being more present.

I got pretty stressed out over the weekend and fought my habitual urges to shop or eat to feel better. I took my feelings and put them in a muscle this time. Based on my soreness, I think I overdid it, but I’m so proud of myself for recognizing patterns that don’t serve me and trying new ways to sit with my feelings and let them wash over me. I even skipped a social event (which is a hard boundary for me). Anyone have any good pointers on handling stress?

So today at the Y I did a workout that incorporated 67 burpees for Laurie’s birthday. IT WAS SO HARD, but the reason I loved today’s workout, is because when I didn’t think I could do anymore, Laurie came over to finish them with me.

Did you hear me? SHE DID EXTRA BURPEES SO THE KID 27 YEARS YOUNGER DIDN’T FEEL ALONE.

She gets that this isn’t a competition, that we’re in this s**t together.

I want to be like Laurie when I grow up.
