Note from the the physicians and medical staff at Oroville Hospital:

To Our Patients, Families, Neighbors,

We write to you as the physicians and medical staff of Oroville Hospital.

You may be aware that Oroville Hospital is currently navigating a Chapter 11 restructuring process. We want to speak to you directly during this time—not with legal language or financial detail, but with clarity, reassurance, and commitment.
First and foremost: our mission has not changed.
Every day, our physicians, nurses, and clinical teams continue to show up with the same dedication, professionalism, and compassion that this community has relied on for generations. Emergency care, inpatient services, outpatient clinics, surgical care, and specialty services remain focused on what matters most—the health, safety, and dignity of our patients.
Chapter 11 is a process designed to stabilize and strengthen organizations so they can continue serving their communities. Throughout this transition, our medical staff remains deeply committed to:
• Providing safe, high-quality, evidence-based care
• Maintaining continuity of services for our patients
• Supporting our colleagues and care teams
• Preserving access to local healthcare for the Oroville region

Oroville Hospital is more than a building or a balance sheet—it is people caring for people. Many of us live here. Our families receive care here. We understand how essential this hospital is to the wellbeing of the surrounding community, especially in rural Northern California.
We want you to know that we are here, we are engaged, and we are invested in the future of healthcare in Oroville. Our commitment is not abstract—it is present in every patient interaction, every night shift, every emergency call, and every difficult decision made with your wellbeing at the center.

Thank you for your continued trust. It is a responsibility we take seriously, and one we are honored to uphold.

With respect and dedication,

Oroville Hospital files for bankruptcy on December 8 due to $193 Million debt and other issues.

Oroville, CA
On December 8 2025, Oroville Hospital and its parent company affiliate, OroHealth Corporation (collectively, the “Debtors”) each filed petitions in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of California, seeking relief under chapter 11 of the United States Bankruptcy Code in order to “help facilitate and maximize the value of a transaction and preserve its critical healthcare facilities for the community.”

They are receiving legal and financial advice from several firms, including Fox Rothschild LLP, FTI Consulting, Inc., and Cain Brothers. The law firm Hooper, Lundy & Bookman, P.C. is advising on healthcare regulatory and transactional matters.

The nonprofit hospital has not been successful on paying the $193 million in municipal debt used to fund a new medical tower.

The construction of the facility was done in March, but the opening was delayed due that the hospital is waiting for state approvals, according to a local news report.

The hospital officials said that they will remain fully operational during restructuring amid its failure – its skilled‑nursing facility, clinics, and other services will continue to serve patients.

Under the bankruptcy process, the hospital was able to obtain financing to maintain full patient care, support staff, pay vendors, and serve the community.

Hospital officials said in a statement: “We believe this filing is an important step toward securing the hospital’s long‑term future as a vital healthcare provider and employer in our community,”

Their goal is to find a partner or a buyer with the resources needed to invest in the facility and sustain its mission.

In 2019, Oroville Hospital issued roughly $196 million in municipal bonds to expand its 133‑bed facility to 211 beds, doubling its square footage.

Located 70 miles north of Sacramento, the hospital has served Oroville and surrounding communities since 1962.
