In addition to potentially helping lower the risk of developing diseases like Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s by increasing BDNF proteins, cycling has also shown to boost emotional health, too. This study illustrates how daily activity, like cycling, can help lower cortisol levels in the brain, which is associated with lowering depression symptoms and treating common disorders like anxiety.

Emotional eating tends to increase over the holidays, so we might try incorporating relaxation techniques into our day to help manage stress. Even something as simple as taking three deep, mindful breaths can help reset our mood.
It’s also more difficult to eat well if we feel deprived by our current eating plan. Use these tactics to make healthy lifestyle changes instead of trying to stick to any particular type of diet. This tip comes late in the list because it can be difficult to practice mindful eating if we haven’t already mastered the other tactics. We might feel hungry when we’re merely dehydrated. To figure out how much water we should drink in a day, take our body weight and divide it in half — that’s how many fluid ounces we should consume. For example, if we weigh 150 pounds, aim to consume approximately 75 fluid ounces of water throughout the day.

Well-balanced meals will help us to feel full, which is essential if we want to resist unhealthy party food. We might think that it’s better to save up our calories for a party by eating less during the day, but that’s actually a recipe for failure. We can’t go to a party hungry and expect divine intervention to help us to keep in control. Give our self a chance to stay on track by eating well-balanced meals and a healthy snack before going to a party.
