Kyle Petty was recently in Oskaloosa to visit Musco Lighting and share the news that Musco is joining as a partner of the 30th Anniversary Kyle Petty Charity Ride Across America — a cross-country motorcycle ride that raises money for Victory Junction, a year-round camp that gives children with complex medical and physical conditions a chance to attend camp free of charge.

The 2026 Ride is set for May 1–9, traveling from Sonoma, California, to Charlotte, North Carolina — about 3,400 miles through 11 states in nine days.

While Petty was in town for the Musco partnership announcement, he also shared some memorable NASCAR stories, including his take on a famous Daytona finish from 1959 and his thoughts on how NASCAR crowns a champion today.

Full story is now up on Oskaloosa News.

Did you know that on Christmas Eve, 1914, the guns of the Western Front fell silent for an evening and a day? The silence filled with carols, first in German, then in English. A small Christmas tree appeared above a German trench. Tentative greetings were called out while some risked entering “no-man’s land”. Troops of both sides retrieved dead and wounded, then shook hands in conversation. Exchanges of gifts were made like to***co, coffee, and wine. An impromptu football (soccer) game began with both sides joining in. The spirit of Christmas infused Eve and day, "The Christmas Truce". The following days troops retreated to their trenches to continue “the war to end all wars”. The Gold Star Museum exhibits reflect the sacrifices of vets and their families at Christmas time and into the New Year.

**OUTDATED POST **

A cold front will move across Iowa today. In addition to strong northwest winds, a few bursts of snow or snow squalls are possible, which would quickly reduce visibilities in snow for short periods. An melting on roadways may also quickly refreeze as colder air arrives, resulting in icy conditions.
