'Birth is Holy.' 'Mothers are not property.' 'Babies are not a commodity.' 🙌

🩸 Did you ever wonder why midwives are called criminal in the land of their grandmothers?
Why women are told birth is “too risky” without a license from men who’ve never bled?
Why catching babies in your hands is punishable, while cutting them from the womb is praised?
It’s not just regulation.
It’s not just oversight.
It’s a war on the design.

👁️ They say it’s for safety—but the numbers say otherwise.
They say it’s for the mother—but mothers say they were never heard.
They say it’s for the baby—but the cord is cut early, the breath is forced, the moment is stolen.
This is not protection.
It is control dressed in sterile robes.

📜 “But the midwives feared God, and did not do as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the male children alive.”
Exodus 1:17.
Shiphrah. Puah.
They stood in the face of genocide, not for fame, not for gold—but because they feared God, not Pharaoh.

And today? The decrees still come down from high.
"Do not attend without a permit."
"Report your sisters."
"Say nothing when they are dragged into court."
But we remember.
And we refuse.
🔗 We stand when told to kneel.
🛑 We speak when told to be quiet.
🤲 We catch life even when threatened with cages.

Midwives in Hungary. Shackled.
In South Africa. Charged.
In Pennsylvania. Investigated.
In New York. Erased from history.
In Australia. Jailed for attending what the mother chose.

Licensed or not, the threat is the same—because it’s not about safety.
It’s about sovereignty.

A woman, laboring in power, is dangerous to the powers. A baby born into peace instead of panic threatens the principalities.
And a midwife who says, “I answer to God, not your decree,” is their greatest fear.

Because we do not serve the gods of liability, nor the idols of compliance.
We do not offer incense to the state to be allowed to do what God has already called us to do.

So why do we fight?
Because birth is holy.
Because mothers are not property.
Because babies are not state commodities.
Because legacy matters more than law.
Because we were called for such a time as this.
We fear the Lord.

This is not soft work. This is a Holy war.

Today’s doula duties? Delivering a little love… in the form of food.

Postpartum care isn’t just about baby snuggles (though we love those too, and he is so perfect!). It's about making sure the whole family is nourished, supported, and maybe gets a hot meal they didn’t have to cook.

Because healing tastes better with a cheesecake. 🍒✨

I hopped on a short Master the Menstrual Cycle session with Lisa Hendrickson-Jack today. If you know who that is.. you probably know that is a HUGE deal to me! Long time listener of her podcast and deeply invested in women's hormonal health and charting!

Lisa is the author of the Fifth Vital Sign, co-author of Real Food for Fertility, host to the Fertility Friday podcast and teaches a FAMM certification course. She values evidence-based care and has over 20 years of experience working in the field of women's health, menstrual/hormonal health, and charting both to avoid and achieve pregnancy.

I write this because I am considering taking her FAMM certification course. It is a financial investment, as you would expect. I am wondering who, in our community, would benefit from working with a FAMM provider. I would like to know if there is an interest for this service before diving in.

It’s not always as easy as it sounds but there’s truth here. And sometimes it is just a matter of making that mindset shift from one of apprehension and dis-ease to one of surrender, confidence, and trust.

Where will we direct our energy? Which offers good fruit? Which posture of being will we look back on with regret? What actual GOOD does worry and anxiety do? Does it change our circumstances or just make us miserable in the midst of them?

A posture of faith can even IMPROVE outcomes and keep that thing we fear from coming to pass! From a supernatural standpoint, yes, but also from a natural one. Our mindset and emotional state have so much to do with our perception, choices, and outcomes. A posture of fear and anxiety gives a foothold for the enemy and when it comes to pregnancy and birth, it can often be a self-fulfilling prophesy as we then make decisions in that state of mind...ones that increase risk, saturate us in worry and “what if”, and steal us of the joy and peace and surrender that is our baptismal right.

May God pour out His grace to strengthen us in faith, in gratitude, in holy wonder of the gifts we have not earned but that have been given to us anyway. May He dispel fear and anxiety and give us wisdom and fortitude to make decisions about our pregnancy, birth, and babies with confidence and peace.
