I was given this Shure 315s about 30 years ago. It was NIB when I received it. I’ve only used it a handful of times. It’s a rather flat and plain sounding ribbon mic. Lately I’ve been using it as a kit mic as just another color in the mic collage. If anyone has any suggestions on how you’ve used one of these, please leave a comment.

Testing Pro Tools 2022.12 on the M1. It’s super impressive minus the lack of third party plugin support. It’ll likely be a few months before developers get their s**t together. (I’m looking at you PA)

How did I spend the pandemic? Making albums. Some of those albums are suddenly finding their way into the world. This is one of them. Evan is a force of nature. As a matter of fact he brought a hurricane to my studio when he came and knocked out the power with his intense energy. I love this album. It allowed me to use my toolbox in ways I haven’t gotten to do in a while. It’s raw and real but also tight and intentional. It rides a narrow line quite beautifully. While doing a fresh install today, I realized that I forgot to humble brag about the two DibS signature presets that the brilliant of was kind enough to include in the last release of the .
Much like it’s hardware counterpart the , this is one of the most versatile and uniquely useful sounding in my arsenal. It does everything from smooth to snappy and with a unique and pleasant sonic fingerprint. Desert island plugin for sure.

So I’ve been checking out the native UAD Spark plugins and putting them up against some of my other tools. I think I’m good without them, honestly. I’m not a member of the “aliasing police” or anything, but my PA, Lindell, Empirical plug ins perform better and sound just as good if not better in some cases. Just my opinion. What do you think?

Another Drew Blood fun yet heavy romp. This one dates back to the first batch of songs we worked on together about 20 years ago. I punched up the mix slightly to take advantage of modern tech but it is essentially the same mix Chris Goercke and I did together in my 36th street apartment all those years ago.
