Facing the future with humor and hope
MILLER CITY – It was a hot evening in July as Carter Niese played baseball for the Ottawa American Legion team.

“We lost, but we had fun,” Carter said grinning the next morning.

Being on the team again is important for Carter. Discovering a tumor on his knee a few years ago had made his future uncertain. The son of Chad and Lynne Niese, Miller City, Carter has four brothers he always enjoys playing sports with. With the discovery of the tumor, his future involvement with sports was in question.

“I also want to be a cop,” Carter said.

From Kalida PD...

Already had a few people ask and told me rumors about the fire in Kalida this afternoon.

A pickup truck pulling an enclosed equipment trailer caught fire while travelling east on 224 by Dollar General in Kalida. They pulled into Hoyt’s parking lot away from the building and were able to unhitch their pickup from the trailer. There were some minor explosions as the trailer contained some gas cans and gas grill size propane tanks. The trailer is a total loss, no injuries, and building on the property was unharmed and not involved. Thanks to the Kalida Fire Department, Kalida and Putnam County Ems, and PCSO for their quick response and assistance.
