I love coming across individuals (especially former athletes/coaches) who do some time in prison (he served less than 6 months in minimum security followed by 5-weeks of halfway house) and come out completely reformed (allegedly). I went ahead and purchased Michael Center's book off Amazon.com to get more insight about his involvement in "Operation Varsity Blues". I'm curious to see if he takes more accountability for his actions in his book than he did in this interview with the Star. 🤨

This Kansas City Star article intrigued me because I was at KU when Centers was there, but pretty sure we never crossed paths. I actually met with the KU Tennis Coach Scott Perelman early in the Fall of 1987, my freshman year, to inquire about walking on to the team. 😂 This was not going to happen because my high school tennis game truly sucked and I was not the caliber athlete for the collegiate level. Plus, John Falbo was a freshman as well and he was the #1 singles player in the Nation in '87 (I read his book too). This was all before the men's tennis program eventually went away in March '01 due to budgetary woes. ✂️

However, a nice side-story to all of this, Chris Walker (a doubles specialist for KU), met me in Perelman's office that day and the Coach had him explain to me how the Fall season worked with tournaments, etc. before the Big 8 season started in the Spring (Coach was like get this kid out of my office 😅). As we rode on the bus from the Kansas Athletics Department, Chris (maybe a Junior or Senior) and his doubles partner introduced me to a Kansas Men's Basketball player, who may have been getting a ride back to the Jayhawk Towers at the time. So, in the end, not a bad day for the Freshman Taco getting to meet the future 1988 NCAA 🏀 Champion/MVP, Danny Manning, after realizing my tennis career at KU was already over, well before it really even started. A few years later, another opportunity to play sports for The University of Kansas would arise ... after a semester of studying abroad in Australia 🇦🇺 my Junior year.🥹 🎾🏀🏉

(And thanks to Chris Walker & Danny Manning for making me feel important when all I really had to hold on to was a pipe dream. 💭)

‘Breaking Serve’: Former KU tennis coach addresses FBI case, prison time in book
He coached KU’s program to conference championships. His life changed, however, when he landed in prison decades later.

Today (9-16) is National Tattoo Story Day where you get to share your origin story of what led to your inking. (link at the bottom👇🏼)

I only have 1 tattoo. The design came from an Australian surfing line of tees called Mambo, which I discovered while studying abroad in Sydney back in the Summer/Fall of 1989. It’s known as “Call of the Wild (Farting Dog)”. It’s on my upper left butt cheek. It’s there because where else are you going to put a farting dog tattoo?

After doing a deep dive into the history of the art & graphics for Mambo tees which originated in 1984, I feel like I’ve been concealing a hidden gem for over 30 years now. My roommates at the time, Craig & Jeffrey, referred me to their tattoo parlor. I set an appointment with Main Line Tattooing & went the next day after work to get my tat (I was 25). The biker looking tattooist gave me a lot of sh*t when I told him I wanted it on my butt … he got pi**ed and started to yell & bitch that he didn’t want to look at my ass for an hour while inking me. Then he told me he was only f*cking with me while giggling (funny guy 😅) and took my $100 bucks. He ended up taking a Polaroid of it and put it in his album for future customers to select.

Ironically, I got my tat on April 19, 1995 … the day of the Oklahoma City bombing. I would eventually go on to have a 20-year career working for the Federal Courts in Wichita & Kansas City, KS. From Down Under to the City of Brotherly Love to the Heart of America. 🐕‍🦺🎵

(I did not tag my wife so not to defile her feed. Although I did clear this with her earlier today of my concept post … my quality control.) 🤭

The English Premier League is 4 weeks in already and in full affect. This is my 3rd full season playing as I discovered the Fantasy Premier League in the Spring of 2023 (1/2 season). I still do not understand all the intricacies and nuances of the game, but I have a much better understanding now of the chips, when to use them and managing my match week transfers better. My weekly dose listening to the also provides guidance and answers many questions about the game. ⚽️

Erling Haaland’s strike in Man City’s 2-1 loss to Brighton was his 88th in just 100 matches, putting him nine ahead of Alan Shearer at the same stage.
