About 630,000+ Duke Energy customers are without power across Central Florida. We had 60-70 mph wind gusts over the past hour around the Orlando, FL area (gust at MCO 74 mph). Stay away from windows and off the roads. Beware of downed power lines/debris. Stay safe! - Meteorologist Ben Alonzo

Hurricane Milton continues to impact much of Central Florida. Near Orlando, Sanford, and Lakeland, it's possible to see some 50-70+ mph wind gusts over the next several hours. Power outages are expanding across the state. Stay away from windows. Stay off the roads. Be alert for flooding. Beware of downed power lines. If you want a hot meal (and you have power right now), cook it now! Stay safe... Be ready. - Meteorologist Ben Alonzo

Important hurricane information! Be ready, Central Florida. Milton is forecasted to be a major hurricane as it targets Central Florida. Landfall is forecasted for late Wednesday/early Thursday. Some changes in storm intensity and speed are expected over the next 24-48 hours. It's also possible the wind field will expand by the time the hurricane reaches Florida's Gulf Coast region. The impacts of a hurricane can extend far beyond the center.

Tropical-storm-force winds (39-73mph) may begin as early as Wednesday morning/afternoon for Central Florida. Secure outdoor items well before the storm hits as they could become dangerous projectiles.

Be prepared for dangerous flooding, widespread damaging winds, storm surge, and power outages. Heed all evacuation orders. Do not delay storm preparations.

Beware of misinformation online. Be sure to obtain storm/emergency information from credible sources. Further hurricane updates are available from the National Hurricane Center website https://nhc.noaa.gov

Stay safe!

Central Florida, be ready for as it is expected to be a major by the time it reaches the Gulf Coast of Florida. Landfall is expected sometime Wednesday afternoon/Thursday morning. Dangerous flooding conditions, storm surge, and widespread damaging winds are possible. Tornadoes may also occur. Remember storm impacts can be felt a significant distance from the center of the storm.

Be prepared for power outages and business/school closures. Have a communication plan/tell your family where you will be. Update them about your situation. If you are in an evacuation order, heed evacuation orders and leave as soon as possible. Be sure to take your important documents and medications with you.

Expect travel delays, airport closures, and long lines at stores.

Keep in mind Florida already has an ongoing insurance crisis. It is important to heed the advanced warnings of scientists regarding climate impacts and severe weather. Always prepare for the worst conditions.

Remove all unsafe outdoor objects, which can become dangerous projectiles with high winds.

Although the forecast can change, our models expect Milton to reach Florida's Gulf Coast as a Category 4 hurricane. We are watching multiple models to determine the next forecast track/intensity. Upper-level shear and dry air entrainment can impact the storm intensity. The influence of an upper-level trough can impact the track of the storm. Because of these factors, landfall can be anywhere from Wednesday afternoon to Thursday morning. This forecast can change if the speed of the storm changes significantly between models.

Pay close attention to the latest updates from the National Hurricane Center: https://nhc.noaa.gov

It is very important to get your information from official/credible sources as there is a lot of misinformation going around online.

Stay safe!
