I was at a convention for work this past weekend and on the first day when I walked in the first table I saw was the League of Women Voters of Kentucky. They focus on spreading voter awareness & are currently working to fight for people in KY with felony convictions to have their voting right reinstated.
When I stopped & talked with these women i never mentioned I was a felon just listened to what they had to say. Took some papers & left. The next day came around & I felt compelled to let them know how personal & much their initiative meant to me. I explained I am a felon who recently finished my sentence and that I had lost passion in politics because of my case, but that they sparked my interest again, and so on. After talking with them I explained I’d love to be a part of what they’re doing. I gave them my contact information & look forward to working with them!
If you know me & my past then you know I have always been passionate about politics. The Go Vote initiative was my pageant platform, part of my senior internships, I was a poly sci minor, & overall have just always cared about my rights.
When I got incarcerated my love for a lot of things, just went out the window. Over the past year I’ve worked hard on picking up the pieces of myself that I let go. I’m happy that the universe led me right where I needed to be this past weekend.
I say this all because our courses in life change a little bit & we get lost & steered in wrong directions. Sometimes those directions lead us to mistakes. But I’m a firm believer in the universe & that every little thing happens for a reason & even when you might not understand it in the moments it’s happening, later you will. This weekend I understood the universe wanted me to be an impactful voice in a place it’s needed & I had to go through all that hell just to get here!
Overall, just keep truckin’. Wether you believe in God or the Universe, everything happens for reasons bigger than we can understand most of the time. When you open your eyes & find the peace in the situations you go/going through you will become more enlightened to the greatness & happiness that’s to follow.
