Happy Tuesday, Oxford! We’re kicking off our first monthly Local Artist Feature of the year with none other than Bedon Lancaster. Bedon just celebrated the release of his first full album, titled “Morning,” on Jan. 24. The album is a product of Bedon’s and Nashville producer Adam Lochemes’ creative minds and has been a work in progress for the past four years. His sound strongly lends itself to indie rock with the refreshing addition of a horn section.
When asked about creating this album, Bedon said, “from the production side, at first, everything was like ‘here’s the song.’ And then we said ‘forget that, let’s create a world for every song to live in.’ And I really feel like we accomplished that from song to song. Especially in the back half of the album. It’s super dreamy, washy, and like their own little worlds in each song..and I’m really proud of what we did there.” Bedon wrote everything on the album from the lyrics to the instrumentals -- including most of the horn melodies.
On stage, Bedon and his band put on one of the most entertaining shows in Oxford. Many of his songs have varying degrees of choreography, and his closing song, “Rain Man” (which happens to be the last song on “Morning”), is never complete until Bedon and guitarist Matt Simson jump into the crowd for the final guitar solo (see Matt spinning around on gravel-covered ground in pictures above).
Swipe to read on about Bedon and his crazy experiences thusfar in his budding career. The link to stream “Morning” on Spotify will be in our bio until the end of the week! If you’ve read this far, you might as well go check it out. OWL thinks it’s pretty great.
Editor’s Recommendation: Go listen to “Birds”
