Scouts keep our trail looking good!
Bravo to members of Scouting America Troop 284 for the volunteer work they did on the Polly Ann Trail along Lakeville Rd., in front of Koenig Materials, in Oxford Township. On Sunday, the scouts picked up litter, filled in holes and removed invasive species, including autumn olive, bittersweet and common buckthorn.

The following scouts donated their time and labor – Oxford High School freshman Liam Lindberg, Oakview Middle School eighth-grader Kody Christofferson, International Academy sophomore Alexander Baier, Lake Orion High School freshman Colten Wood, Lake Orion High School freshman Logan Garbacik, Oxford Middle School seventh-grader Henry Lindberg, Scripps Middle School sixth-grader Jax Sanders and Scoutmaster Neil Garbacik. They were guided by Polly Ann Trail Manager Linda Moran.

What’s happening at Stony Lake Twp. Park?
Shout-out to Saradan Construction! The Oxford-based company is hard at work installing 855 feet of sanitary sewer pipe (8-inch and 6-inch diameter) in Stony Lake Twp. Park. This pipe will be used to connect the park’s restrooms to the public sewer system, thus ending the facility’s dependence on an aging septic system. This connection is possible because last year, the township installed an 18-inch-diameter concrete sewer line along M-24 from Harriet St. to Dunlap Rd. Photo by C.J. Carnacchio.

SPACE AVAILABLE! There are still 10 open seats for the Wednesday, Dec. 4 FREE CPR class at Oxford Fire Station #1! It will run from 6 to 8 p.m. Register online at tinyurl.com/yzsryjt4.

The two-hour Family and Friends CPR class (created by the American Heart Association) is for anyone who wants to learn how to effectively help family, friends, coworkers and strangers in a medical emergency. These classes are NOT for people seeking a course completion or certification card.

Community members learn how to perform CPR, use an automated external defibrillator (AED) and help choking victims.

Since classes began in September 2023, a total of 159 people have learned valuable lifesaving skills that will enable them to spring into action should they encounter someone who’s experiencing a cardiac arrest or choking.

The OXFD is offering these classes to the public, free of charge, on a monthly basis for two years. Classes are limited to 20 participants each. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.

A $12,465 grant from the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan and a $1,600 donation from the Chaldean Community Foundation paid for the CPR training equipment and instructor time for this program. C.J. Carnacchio, the township's communications and grants manager, and Oxford Fire Capt./EMS Coordinator Kevin Snell worked together to secure the grant.

Questions about the classes? Call Oxford Fire Station #1 at (248) 969-9483 and ask for Capt. Snell.
