On this day in 1981, Black Sabbath released their tenth studio album, MOB RULES. It was notably the second and final studio album to feature the vocal prowess of Ronnie James Dio until his return in 1992 (to record Dehumanizer). Mob Rules was also the first Sabbath album to feature Vinny Appice on drums, who replaced original member Bill Ward in the middle of the Heaven & Hell tour in 1980. The band went on to release Live Evil in 1982, which was recorded during the Mob Rules tour. Unfortunately, Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler thought Dio was sneaking into the studio to raise the volume on his vocal tracks during production, and the accusation pi**ed him off enough to leave the band and pursue a solo career, taking Vinny Appice with him.
