Pacific Grove Books uses the power of story to capture and preserve the features of our unique culture and community. Through stories inspired by or written about life in Pacific Grove, our writers chronicle its rich history and build a bridge to a future that promotes communal spirit and harmony. By experiencing life in the Pacific Grove Sanctuary by-the-Sea, visiting writers learn about small-town life firsthand, hone their skills by meeting and working with local authors and editors, and build connections by penning stories that inform, entertain, and enlighten. Proceeds from all book sales benefit the Pacific Grove Public Library Friends and Foundation and are designated for the historic preservation of Pacific Grove documents and memorabilia.

ASILOMAR, ON THE ROCKS
A walk at Asilomar beach in Pacific Grove is always magical, and even more so at sunset. Depending on the time of the year—the rocks tend to be covered in sand in the summer, exposed in the winter months—beach-goers are fond of creating instant sculpture by balancing rocks atop one another. Four easy walks in the Asilomar area are featured in “Pacific Grove at Your Feet,” published by Pacific Grove Books and available on Amazon. Reviewer Diana Y. Paul says, “I will treasure this as a resource for when friends visit and want to enjoy a walk in Butterfly Town, U.S.A., that few out-of-towners and locals know about.”

WHEN PACIFIC GROVE ALMOST BECAME SILICON GROVE This plaque at the southwest corner of Lighthouse Avenue and Willow Street is all that remains of a moment in history when Pacific Grove was poised to become the next Silicon Valley. It marks the original home of Digital Research, Inc., where Gary and Dorothy Kildall developed one of the early microprocessor control systems. Author Joyce Krieg literally has Pacific Grove at her feet, as one of her pink Crocs appears in this image. “Pacific Grove at Your Feet,” featuring 14 walks, hikes and rambles in Butterfly Town, is published by Pacific Grove Books and available on Amazon. Reviewer Jeffrey Whitmore says, “ witty, informative, and user friendly walking guide to the coastal and forest trails, meandering streets, and other byways of Pacific Grove.”

ROMANCE BY THE SEA
Life magazine has called Pacific Grove the nation’s most romantic city, and quite possibly the most romantic venue of all is the gazebo facing the ocean along the Asilomar Coast Trail. Remnants of red rose petals in the sand outside the gazebo provide evidence of a recent amorous encounter. The Asilomar Coast Trail is among 14 walks featured in “Pacific Grove at Your Feet,” published by Pacific Grove Books and available on Amazon. Reviewer Lucy M. says, “Having it along on a walk is like having a friendly guide join you.”
Check out Chapter 3 on page 38 to learn more about the Asilomar Coast Trail.

A WALK ON THE WILD SIDE
Not all of Pacific Grove’s wild life has fur, feathers or fins. Proof of that is spotted in this wildly-decorated pickup truck at a turnout near the Great Tide Pool, the final stop on the Rec Trail West walk, and the start of the Asilomar Coast Trail hike. Both are featured in “Pacific Grove at Your Feet,” published by Pacific Grove Books and available on Amazon. Reviewer Dorothy Vriend calls it, “A must-read for both locals and visitors I’m still finding things in the book I didn’t know or haven’t seen.” The Asilomar Coast Trail is described in Chapter 3 on page 38.
