My daughters & I created this song "Hug Me" a few years ago ~ they sang the lyrics and I came up with da chords, haha ~ and we want to make a cute sweet & heartwarming music video to it before they get any older & bigger!! 😉

Dancing in Home Depot

It was a muggy summer day,
a humid afternoon in Hawai’i nei
standing in line at the returns
counter at Home Depot in Hilo
to replace the solar generator
that wasn’t even powering us
through a whole Netflix comedy
whn all of a sudden, it happened ~
the speakers played a salsa classic,
and my 8 year old daughter turned to me
and extended her hand, gallantly,
and like in an old time classic movie,
we danced a duet across the grey tiles,
spinning each other with abandon
near stacked boxes of fans & batteries,
twirling past a latino man who grinned
and gave us flashing 10s
with his palms while strolling by,
and for a moment, we transformed
that huge hardware store
into a disco, and a grey~haired couple
laughed and copied us for one spin,
& customers smiled and looked up
from their complaints, exchanges & returns
for a spell to enjoy a mother
& daughter twirling to a song ~
and just as soon as it happened,
it ended, with a sweet curtsy
and a ladylike dramatic bow,
and we resumed waiting in line
with slumped backs and long sighs.
But for a brief moment,
my little daughter transformed
that ordinary store with her magic
& a silent but sure invitation to dance.

Happy 10th Birthday Senai'a Atarangi, my dolphin blessing of the dawn light! Ten years ago, I sang & recorded this sacred Maori creation song taught to me by Maori healer Anaru Paine, to welcome you into this world.

You were born the next morning after recording, and In the throes of my labor, I sang this song three times and a portal opened and a Maori ancestor sang through me ~ Haere mai, Haere mai, Haere mai ~ and I only found out later, from Anaru, that this is a karanga, a welcome song!! This sacred and unforgettable experience is one I will always remember in my spirit & my bones.

You came in, blessed & protected, with ancestors singing you into this world, while I gave birth listening to an album of my own songs ~ you were and are surrounded with love, my little one, not so little anymore, but always beloved.

Thank you for being my taonga, my treasure, my light ~ for bringing me smiles, so much laughter & joy every day of my life ~ my funny, brave, loving, sweet, kind girl ~ a water~birth born in a heart shaped tup overlooking da sea at dawn ~ you swam out of me like a dolphin baby and since I named you Senai'a, I have experienced the most magical dolphin blessing encounters anyone could ever dream of ~ saranghe my sweet!
