On Friday, June 5, 2026, at approximately 2:40 p.m., the Oroville Police Department received a 911 call reporting that a 14-year-old male juvenile had been shot inside a residence in the 3800 block of Burlington Avenue.
Oroville Police Officers responded immediately and located the juvenile suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. Officers rendered emergency medical aid until EMS personnel arrived and assumed care. The victim was transported to a local hospital for emergency treatment but was later pronounced deceased.
Members of the Oroville Police Department's Felony Investigations Unit responded and immediately began investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Later that day, detectives obtained and executed a search warrant at the residence where the incident occurred. During the search, investigators located the firearm involved in the shooting. The fi****msβ serial number had been removed.
Through witness statements and evidence collected during the investigation, detectives learned that the victim was visiting another 14-year-old juvenile at the residence. Investigators determined that the juvenile suspect was in possession of the loaded firearm. During the encounter, the firearm discharged after being thrown, with a round striking the victim in the head.
As a result of the investigation, two arrests were made.
The 14-year-old juvenile suspect was arrested and booked into the Butte County Juvenile Hall on felony charges including manslaughter, negligent discharge of a firearm, and altering or removing identifying information from a firearm.
An adult resident of the home, Allan Bone Jr, age 20, of Oroville was also arrested and booked into the Butte County Jail on felony and misdemeanor charges including possession of ammunition by a prohibited person, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, and possession of a firearm that did not bear a valid serial number, commonly referred to as a ghost gun.
This incident is a heartbreaking reminder of the devastating consequences that can occur when fi****ms are accessible to juveniles. The Oroville Police Department encourages parents and guardians to have ongoing conversations with their children about firearm safety and the dangers of handling or being around fi****ms without responsible adult supervision. Safe firearm storage, responsible ownership, and open communication remain critical tools in protecting our youth and preventing future loss of life.
