The Female Anhinga, 2025.
I looked up in the trees to see this unusual bird perched over the waters of the Indian River Lagoon. The anhinga are skillful swimmers and when they hunt fish they are able to dive under the water and swim with just their necks showing above, hence their nickname, the snake bird.

Great Blue Heron in Black & White, 2025.
I caught this pretty heron this week sitting amongst the rocks along the Indian River Lagoon. I was challenged to do a photo "In the style of" another famous photographer this week, so I decided to do this one in honor of an amazing wildlife photographer named Melissa Groo. While most of her work is in color, I once saw this beautiful picture of a heron she did in monochrome and was inspired.
I hope you all enjoy this one and I'll post Melissa's original photo in the comments below.

Water Galaxy, 2025.
Something a little different this week. This photo of some water a little oil, a little food dye and an overhead flash was all that was needed to create this galaxy in a glass.

Snowy Egret Fly-By, 2025.
It's always amazing when you sit patiently forever waiting for some bird action to photograph and then a snowy egret just comes flying right by you, as if to say "It's time for my closeup!"

The Overseeing Heron, 2025.
I do love photographing my Great Blue Herons. They are such impressive birds and are excellent fishers. This guy was perched way above me in the palm trees, looking down at the water, obviously scouting out his next meal.

Introducing Captain Coco Bun, 2025.
It seems we have a new addition around our house these days! This sweet young bunny has claimed my home as his/hers too. It started with little occurrences of him popping up in my yard at night. This isn't rare around here as we get a lot of bunny action, but I am hyper aware before I let the big dogs out because a couple of them are bunny hunters.
A few weeks ago he started hanging around more and more and I found myself walking out giving an alert every day to go outside the fence before I let the dogs out. The problem is he wouldn't go, so I would have to walk with him over to the fence until he popped out. This has now become a habit and every night I find myself walking and talking with Captain Coco Bun until he finally retreats.
This little one is almost totally fearless of me. I can literally crouch on the ground in touching distance of him and instead of looking to run away he just sits and listens and watches me. Sometimes even coming closer to me. He seems to be happy to just hop the yard along side me even though half the time I am telling him to shoo away for his own safety.
Now he seems to show up not just at night, but throughout the day. I am afraid that his blind trust in me (and he seems to have no fear of my little dog Loki either) is going to get him killed one day. I feel like our daily walks might be building his confidence instead of deterring him from entering my yard, but I have to say I do really enjoy our evening interactions together. He/she seems to be young and alone so I'm wondering if he is feeling lost without his family. Who knows, but for now Captain Coco Bun has earned his place around here and I'll do what I can to keep him safe.

The Golden Headed Lion Tamarin, 2025.
This inquisitive small primate is native to the Brazilian Amazon. I was lucky enough to capture a photo of this one at my local zoo. There are around 600 of these beautiful tamarins protected by zoos around the globe.

You can't look into the shaggy eyes of a donkey and not be mesmerized. They tell such a story.
