The University of Florida is planning a staggering $1.45 billion transformation of Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, a project school officials say could become the most expensive renovation in college football history.
The massive overhaul of “The Swamp” is slated to begin after the 2027 season and be completed in time for the 2030 season.
University leaders unveiled new renderings this week, describing the project as a “50-year solution” designed to modernize one of college football’s most iconic venues while preserving the traditions that make it special.
“Every inch of this stadium is going to be affected,” Athletic Director Scott Stricklin said.
The renovation will revamp the stadium’s existing 82 suites and add 63 more along the east side, along with new premium seating areas, upgraded concessions, state-of-the-art video boards and enhanced audio capabilities. The project also includes roughly $500 million in deferred maintenance and infrastructure improvements.
Despite losing thousands of seats in the lower bowl, overall capacity will remain at 88,548 thanks to the addition of new suites and premium areas.
Florida currently generates about $75 million a year from tickets, concessions, parking and donations tied to the nearly 100-year-old stadium. Officials expect annual revenue to jump to roughly $140 million after the renovation is complete.
Stricklin said the goal is simple: “Bigger, Better, Louder.”
