Luke Evans got handed the kind of roles Hollywood swore an out gay man could never carry - and he did it without ever pretending to be something he wasn't.
Fast & Furious. The Hobbit. Beauty and the Beast. Macho action heroes at the blockbuster level, all while being completely out, and all while the industry quietly hoped nobody would notice.
Growing up a Jehovah's Witness in Wales, he left home at 16 to chase acting and never looked back. His 2024 memoir, Boy from the Valleys, laid bare the homophobia, the barriers, and the path he cut through Hollywood essentially alone.
These days he's happily building a life with his partner, Spanish architect Fran Tomas - and rocking on The Rocky Horror Show.
And his advice to young LGBTQ people says everything you need to know: "You can have any career you want, and nothing should dictate what you do because of your sexuality."
