PRESIDENT BOAKAI RAPS GRADUATES OF THE FOREIGN SERVICE INSTITUTE; Charges Them to Represent Liberia with Integrity, Wisdom, and Distinction

November 12, 2025

Executive Mansion, Monrovia:- President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., today, November 12, 2025, delivered the keynote address at the 71st Graduation Ceremony of the Gabriel L. Dennis Foreign Service Institute (FSI) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, held at the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Ministerial Complex in Oldest Congo Town.

The ceremony marked a historic milestone as the Institute graduated 120 students—the largest class in its 74-year history—representing participants from the Regular Academic Program, the Madam Suakoko Graduate Program for Female Diplomats, and the Refresher and Orientation Program for elected and appointed officials.

President Boakai commended the Institute’s continued legacy of excellence and its transformation into a center of diplomatic distinction. He praised the FSI for rebranding and modernizing its curriculum to meet international standards, particularly at a time when Liberia is preparing to assume a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council.

“The Institute does not merely train—it transforms,” the President emphasized. “It equips its graduates not only to represent Liberia but to serve as architects of our expanding global influence.”

The Liberian Leader lauded the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Director General, faculty, and administration of the FSI for fostering partnerships with regional and global institutions such as the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), the Foreign Service Academy of Sierra Leone, the International Relations Institute of Cameroon, and the Institute of Diplomatic Studies in Egypt. He said these collaborations are key to ensuring that Liberia’s diplomats are globally competitive and prepared to address the complex challenges of the 21st century.

Addressing the graduates, President Boakai charged them to uphold four core pillars as they embark on their professional journey:
1. Be Advocates for Liberia’s Prosperity – promoting economic diplomacy and attracting responsible investment.
2. Be Architects of Peace and Regional Stability – sustaining Liberia’s role as a credible partner for peace and integration in the MRU, ECOWAS, and the African Union.
3. Be Good Examples of Integrity and Service – upholding the highest ethical and professional standards.
4. Be Champions of the ARREST Agenda – advancing the national development framework aimed at transforming Liberia’s economy and governance.

The President reminded the graduates of their duty to represent Liberia’s interests and values with “integrity, wisdom, and distinction,” urging them to be results-driven diplomats who not only attend formal events but also bring tangible benefits to the Liberian people.

Quoting the renowned Pan-Africanist Edward Wilmot Blyden, President Boakai stated, “A nation is not necessarily great because it is independent… The size of a country does not determine its greatness, but the character of its people.”

He concluded by encouraging the graduates to embody that character—representing the “new Liberia” marked by resilience, peace, and progressive ambition.

“Be bold in your ideas, but wise in your counsel. Be proud ambassadors of the new Liberia—a Liberia of resilience, peace, and progressive ambition,” the President declared.

The event was attended by high-profile dignitaries including Hon. Jewel Howard-Taylor, Former Vice President of Liberia; Members of the Legislature and Judiciary; the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cabinet Members; Members of the Diplomatic Corps; and other distinguished personalities.

Students of Lutheran University of Liberia outlined challenges; Present Resolution to Administration for adherence

By: Joshua Mulbah Jr.

The students of the Lutheran University of Liberia, Esther-Bacon College of Health Sciences in Suakoko District, have released a formal resolution calling on the university’s administration, board of trustees, and the national government to address several pressing issues affecting their academic environment.

In an interview with reporters, student representative Abraham Kollie highlighted the students’ concerns and urged the administration to act promptly in response to their demands.

Mr. Kollie explained that, the students have seek constructive dialogue with the administration and expected immediate action to improve conditions at the institution, but no results so far.

The Lutheran University of Liberia students Resolutional Statement outlined several grievances, including calls for the resignation of Assistant Dean Mrs. Ida A. C. Brown, adjustment of the 2025 academic calendar, and a breakdown of registration fees to ensure transparency.

In addition, they also requested updates on the accreditation of the Laboratory Department, the extension of the Medical Laboratory Practicum area, and the date and cost of the upcoming graduation ceremony.

Moreover, the students are demanding the employment of qualified instructors, better customer service at the admission office, improved feeding conditions for resident students who reportedly pay USD 325 but receive only one meal daily, and fair enforcement of academic policies outlined in the student handbook.

The statement concluded with an appeal for greater administrative accountability and student inclusion in decision-making processes, emphasizing that their concerns are aimed at enhancing academic standards and student welfare.

In addition, the students of the institution are kindly appealing to the administration to see reasons and adhere to their concerns, something they believe will improve their life and learning environment at the period of their study.

November 10, 2025

Executive Mansion, Monrovia –: President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. today received a high-level delegation from Transco CLSG, the regional electricity transmission company that connects Côte d’Ivoire, Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Guinea (CLSG), at the Executive Mansion in Monrovia.

Transco CLSG was established through a treaty among the four West African nations to finance, construct, own, and operate a high-voltage transmission interconnection line, creating a unified and integrated power grid across the region.

The four-member delegation was led by Mr. Jiba Yilla, Acting General Manager of Transco CLSG, and accompanied by Mr. Mohammed Sherif, Managing Director of the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC). The team paid a courtesy visit to President Boakai following their return from engagements in Côte d’Ivoire, Guinea, and Sierra Leone.

In his briefing, Mr. Yilla praised Liberia’s outstanding role within the CLSG framework, describing the country as the project’s “best customer.” He highlighted Liberia as a success story for the region, noting that the Government, through the LEC, has demonstrated consistent progress and reliability in its partnership with Transco CLSG.

President Boakai, in response, expressed his appreciation to the delegation for their visit and expressed Liberia’s interest for regional cooperation in the energy sector. He lauded the CLSG initiative as a testament to African nations taking ownership of critical infrastructure to drive their collective development.

“It is encouraging to see Africans taking charge of such an important sector to serve their own countries,” President Boakai said, assuring that, “My Government remains committed to supporting the CLSG’s continued growth and success.”

Also present at the meeting were senior government officials, including the Minister of State for Presidential Affairs, Hon. Samuel A. Stevquoah, and the Acting Minister of Mines and Energy, Hon. Eudora Blay-Pritchard.
