New NYS Parkland along Cayuga Lake to be Named “Three Falls State Park”: EXCITING news today from the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation as their recently acquired 90-acre property along Cayuga Lake will be designated as “Three Falls State Park”—this is the former Camp Barton scout property. It’s a beautiful place—one I was allowed to check out last year, 128-foot tall Frontenac Falls is among the many attractions (pictured). Let me emphasize—the new park is not yet fully open. The park will be operated by the Three Falls Local Development Corporation—a collaborative comprised of representatives from the towns of Covert, Ulysses and Village of Trumansburg. There are BIG plans for this new state park including:
* Restored camp cabins,
* New docks, kayak launches and lake access infrastructure,
* A new Nature Center and environmental education learning spaces,
* Preservation of peregrine falcon habitat,
* Rentable music and events spaces,
* An improved central restroom facility,
* New hiking trails and waterfall viewing areas,
* And a permanent 110+ space parking area.
Again, the park is not yet fully open and a timeline review will take place as progress is made on the various improvements. This is WONDERFUL news for a very special area of the Finger Lakes Region!
