PAUSD has selected a new superintendent, Dr. Jason Glass. Glass formerly worked as the commissioner of the department of education for Iowa and Kentucky, as well as serving as Laguna Beach Unified School District’s superintendent for one year.

This afternoon, Incumbent president Katie Kim won the election for Associated Student Body President for the 2026-2026 school year. Kim, who campaigned on Instagram advocating for school spirit events secured the position following a schoolwide vote from Thursday morning to Friday afternoon.

Kim will officially take office at the start of the 2026-27 school year, where she will lead the student body and work alongside the administration on key events such as spirit week, cookies on the quad, prom, snack and study, and more.

This morning, in a motion initiated by Rowena Chiu, the Board of Education voted unanimously to appoint Herb Espiritu as the Acting Superintendent, effective until April 21, 2026, or until the Board appoints an external Interim Superintendent.

In a statement released by President Shounak Dharap,
“I spoke with the presidents of the teachers’ union (PAEA) and the classified staff union (CSEA) shortly after the Board took action, and both expressed deep admiration and respect for Mr. Espiritu.”

The Board will meet on March 30th to receive presentations from superintendent search firms. Open session will begin at 7:30 p.m at 25 Churchill.

PAUSD’s Board of Education and Acting Superintendent Trent Bahadursingh have reached a mutual agreement to end his tenure, following a closed session at the March 17 meeting. The departure reason remains undisclosed. A new Acting Superintendent will be discussed in an upcoming meeting.
