Oceaneering this past July donated several cable reels ranging from 20' to 40' each and weighing from 40-60 tons each for artificial reefs about 12 miles from St. Andrews Pass. If you are looking for 5 Star Motel than keep driving past Sugarloaf Lodge. But, I can tell you I cannot remember any family times beating Sugarloaf Lodge for family fun and memories. Sometimes, it is not about the icing on the cake, but what is beneath it. I would not trade those lobster seasons for anything. BTW, this is where Kim learned how to drive the boat when we were down under getting our lobster limit.

A few weeks ago I made a quick trip to St. Andrews Pass and these photos reflect why they call the Panhandle the Emerald Coast. Absolutely stunning. BTW. The Pass holds some of the best fishing in the world for redfish! Tip: The reds are either in the upper or lower column of water. Start with the bottom column and if no success they will be within 20' of the surface. Free line live pinfish is your best bait. Cigar minnows on the bottom is next best. Go fish and have some fun!

My son, Rob and his son Hunter had an amazing Alaska halibut fishing trip this past year. I must say that is probably the largest fish a Gibson has ever caught and landed. We have fished the Grey Ghost for many years with great success. One thing we have noticed is that some of the best fishing are spots off various areas of the ship's primary GPS number shown below. We have a thread of outstanding red snapper and grouper spots running from the Pass to Grey Ghost. We don't spend more than a few minutes at the most if the spot does not produce. Our Simrad may show fish, but sometimes we miss the feeding cycle and also the fish. Let me know your experiences at the Grey Ghost or any other spot.
