TEMPORARY ROAD CLOSURE: DOC WHITFIELD ONE MILE FROM SR 71

A traffic accident involving a log truck approximately one mile off State Road 71 on the Doc Whitfield Road has forced a temporary road closure as the tow company removes the vehicle from the shoulder of the road. Logs will also have to be removed from the scene.
The road will be re-opened as soon as possible.

TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO MULTIPLE CHARGES

PONCE DE LEON – On April 8, an HCSO deputy conducted a traffic stop on a Dodge Ram being driven by Kenneth Star of Ellijay, Georgia, for a traffic infraction.

While the deputy was talking with Star, K9 Lasso conducted a free air sniff of the vehicle and alerted to the presence of narcotics. Mr. Star informed the deputy that there was ma*****na in the vehicle that belonged to a juvenile passenger in his care. Mr. Star admitted allowing the juvenile to possess and use ma*****na.

A probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted, which revealed a clear bag containing a small amount of ma*****na and a pipe in the back seat. Additionally, 1.7 grams of co***ne, 1.5 grams of methamphetamine, and a loaded handgun were discovered in the vehicle.

Star was placed under arrest and faces charges of possession of co***ne, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and child neglect.
