Bay District Schools Closed Thursday, January 23, Due to Hazardous Road Conditions

Due to the historic snowfall across Bay County and continued hazardous road conditions, Bay District Schools will remain closed on Thursday, January 23, 2025. With temperatures expected to drop below freezing again overnight, emergency management officials are urging residents to stay home and off the roads as much as possible for their safety.

While some major roads may improve, secondary roads are expected to remain icy and unsafe, particularly during early morning hours when buses and families would typically be traveling. After consulting with local officials, Superintendent Mark McQueen made the decision to close schools for an additional day, prioritizing the well-being of students, teachers, and staff.

“This is truly a historic weather event for our area, bringing not only snow but also near-record low temperatures that will continue to create dangerous travel conditions,” said Superintendent McQueen. “The safety of our students, employees, and families is our highest priority. While we know many are enjoying this rare snowfall, we also recognize the risks it presents, and we encourage everyone to stay home and stay safe.”

Bay District Schools will continue to monitor conditions and provide further updates as needed. Community members are encouraged to follow official district channels for the latest information.
