"Every October, millions of youth, leaders, volunteers, and alumni across the country pause to celebrate National 4-H Week. From October 5 to October 11 this year, 4-H members will participate in service projects, share their stories, and showcase a program that has shaped generations of young people. With more than 120 years of history behind it, 4-H remains one of the largest youth development organizations in the nation, preparing participants to be, as the national campaign puts it, “beyond ready” for life and career."

We were delighted to welcome Mrs Horn’s first graders from Paonia K-8 today! They’re learning about economics and needs and wants. They had all kinds of good questions: who makes books? have we read them all? And we were so impressed they knew the difference between fiction and nonfiction. They advised us on which children’s books they found interesting (ALL OF THEM🤣🤣) and they told us they love stories that are funny.

Each child left the store with a book to take home today, a gift courtesy of Paonia Literary Project, our nonprofit, and a reminder to tell their parents about our fall break give-away—A Picture Is Worth A Thousand Words.

Any North Fork Valley student in K-2 who brings us a picture they’ve drawn of them reading can come choose a book to keep forever from October 10-18 (Tuesday-Saturday) from 12-5 pm on the days the bookstore is open. We love seeing excited young readers!

Two little hearts, one big story! Harly and Herby were found locked in a bedroom with no food or water after their owners moved away. Despite everything, these sweet boys still have so much love to give. Now safe at , they’ve been neutered, vaccinated, and are ready for the happy ending they deserve.

Harly and Herby are a bonded pair who lean on each other for comfort, so we’d love to see them adopted together. Adoption fee is just $100 for both—because love is always better in twos. 🐾💖

To meet these gentle boys, call or text 970-589-2404.
