Dining with Ms X - SQUABS GYROS & BROASTED CHICKEN
2348 N. Mannheim Rd. MELROSE PARK, IL 847-455-5205.
Upon walking in, I was taken back by a wonderful aroma - it smelled so good in there. I placed an order to go. I was planning to get a gyros and fries but when I saw the display of broasted chicken and Greek potatoes at the counter, I knew I had to add that to my order as well. The gyros meat was so tasty, and the pita bread was cooked perfectly. I had a combo of potatoes to go with my meal: the skinny fries and the Greek potatoes were yummy. And their broasted chicken was amazing. They have plenty of seating and a large menu with so much to offer.

How Neighborhood Restaurants Can Rebuild Their Local Community and Their Loyal Customer Base
By Cary Miller

For generations, neighborhood restaurants have been the heart of their communities; places where people gather, connect, and feel welcome. Yet customer counts are down, and many guests have fallen out of the habit of dining out. Independent operators can help change that by making their restaurants true community gathering spots again.

Host small, themed events that give people a reason to come out and meet others; singles nights, young parents’ gatherings, hate internet dating mixer, local business networking party, or wine tastings for couples. These don’t have to be elaborate or weekly; even a monthly event can create excitement and loyalty if promoted through social media and local word of mouth.

You can offer light appetizers or charge a modest fee — people will happily pay for an enjoyable, personal experience close to home. The key is consistency. When your restaurant becomes a familiar hub for connection, it stays top of mind and earns repeat visits.

This simple, low-cost idea can build traffic, boost sales, and strengthen your bond with the neighborhood. More than ever, our society needs the warmth and hospitality that only local restaurants can provide.
