• The Linn County logo, the one with the maple leaf and the sword, has been the symbol of Linn County for about three decades. It is plastered on the side of county vehicles and attached to many county buildings.
The Linn County Commission is looking at updating the logo, and we want to know your opinion. One commissioner said she had received calls from people wanting to keep the current logo.
So we loaded a new survey app on our website, and we're curious to know what everyone else thinks.
It's hardly surprising that we ran into a glitch or two in rolling out this new app, and we're still learning. However, at sometime after we published the invitation to the public to vote we notice that the response buttons were unreadable – along with other issues.
Our options were A) keep the logo the same, B) change the logo and let the commissioners decide which one should be used, or C) change the logo but let county residents vote on which one should be used.
One respondent sent an email wondering about the cost of changing the logo, and if it was implemented all at once, there would be a cost for new decals for vehicles and signs on buildings.
So, if you tried use the survey before and couldn't vote, please try again. If you pushed the button and got a message that your vote was counted, it was. Please note that the survey will only accept one vote from each IP address. So if a relative or friend has already voted on your desktop, you'll need to try voting on your phone.
Here are results at the end of the first 24 hours:
Option A - Keep the current logo, 23 votes
Option B - Change the logo and let the commissioners choose, 2 votes
Option C - Change the logo and let the public choose from the top choices, 12 votes
• Once again, be sure to see our coverage of the Linn County Fair and Rodeo. It looks like cooler weather could make next week's event the best in years. There is still time to save on advance tickets to the four night events by purchasing from a fair queen candidate. The candidates get a cut of their sales, so you support both the fair and the young women who have taken on that job this summer. See their contact information in the flyer with this post.
All of the details are in the Linn County Journal.
