We started putting our heads together with in 2004. The After School Enrichment Program operates over 200 elementary sites and engages approximately 16,000 kids each afternoon at NO cost to families.
Revenue sources for such a large operation are crucial. And when the economy crashed in 2008, we designed perhaps one of our most-creative annual reports to visually narrate the efforts the organization went through to guarantee art, dance, science, and sports activities endured the economic downturn.
LA’s BEST had to get really creative with its budget — doing more with less — and we got creative ourselves and built a cardboard version of their “revenue sources” to demonstrate it.
We took the “pie chart” along many enrichment activities kids engage in, on multiple campuses, in classrooms, on field trips, all the way to the office of the Board Chair. We turned the annual report into an appeal for supporters and champions of the program to contribute their part to the revenue sources. It worked!
