54 years ago today, on September 17, 1972 - M*A*S*H Debuts on CBS. Shooting for M*A*S*H took place on a movie ranch operated by Twentieth Century Fox. It's Then and Now Thursday! 🎬

The filming lasted from 1972 to 1983. During this period, the Twentieth Century Fox Ranch was actually sold off and became Malibu Creek State Park. With the help of the Malibu Creek State Park Docents, the state park preserves the MASH site for visitors. Today it's a great place to hike!

Sally Field was 18 years old when she played Gidget in the 1965 television series. She was cast in the breakout role after being selected from 75 other teenage actresses who auditioned for the part.

61 years ago today, September 15, 1965, Gidget premired as a half hour sitcom produced by Screen Gems that aired on ABC. It's Tubular Tuesday! 🏄‍♀️

The series was based upon Frederick Kohner's 1957 novel "Gidget: the Little Girl with Big Ideas", which Kohner based upon the adventures of his teenage daughter Kathy Zuckerman, seen here with her surfboard in a photo taken at Malibu Surfrider Beach, circa 1959. The novel was adapted into a 1959 movie starring Sandra Dee, James Darren and Cliff Robertson.
