PASO ROBLES — This holiday season, Wine Country Theatre invites audiences to experience the classic Christmas tale It’s a Wonderful Life like never before — as a live radio play. Performances will take place at Plymouth Congregational Church, with evening shows at 7 p.m. on November 29, December 5, 6, and 12, and matinees at 2 p.m. on November 30, December 6, 7, 13, and 14.

Co-directed by Cynthia Anthony and Jacob Shearer, the production follows George Bailey’s journey from childhood to a fateful day that makes him wish he had never been born, brought to life through the nostalgic lens of a 1940s radio broadcast with period costumes, live sound effects, and holiday charm.

“This show is a love letter to storytelling itself,” says Shearer. “Audiences will see actors creating the world of Bedford Falls live on stage — microphones, foley tables, and all — while rediscovering what truly makes life wonderful.”

Geoff Higgins stars as George Bailey, joined by a talented ensemble including Kristen Saunders, Katie Schulte, Scott Saunders, Tracy Mayfield, Marjorie Hamon, Edgar De La Cruz, Lindsey Villanueva-Taylor, and Thomas Hanrahan.

A portion of the proceeds will benefit Plymouth Congregational Church and local community service programs. Tickets are available at My805Tix.com and winecountrytheatre.org. Early reservations are recommended as seating is limited.

PASO ROBLES — Creston Village Assisted Living is bringing back its 2nd Annual Trunk or Treat on Monday, October 27, from 4 to 7 p.m., inviting families for an evening of Halloween fun, community connection, and a touch of philanthropy.

Little ghouls and goblins can trick-or-treat from trunk to trunk, each decorated by residents, families, and staff in creative Halloween themes. After filling their buckets, guests can enjoy hot dogs and drinks while mingling in the courtyard. Costumes are encouraged for all ages.

"Last year's event was a favorite for residents here in our community. Seeing a parade of kids tromping through the dining room on their way to fill buckets with candy brought plenty of smiles," said Adam Bramwell, Executive Director. "Then, families stayed and relaxed in our courtyard to enjoy a quick and easy dinner of grilled hot dogs and chips to play with old and new friends.”

Along with the candy and costumes, this year’s celebration will raise awareness and funds for the Alzheimer’s Association, with Creston Village contributing donations to its Alzheimer’s Walk team in November.

The event takes place at Creston Village Assisted Living, 1919 Creston Rd., Paso Robles. Families, volunteers, and community members are welcome to attend.

PASO ROBLES — SabesWings, the nonprofit organization founded by World Series MVP Bret Saberhagen and his wife Kandace Saberhagen, raised more than $1 million during its 5th Annual “Strike Out” Medical Financial Toxicity (MFT) event held October 4–5 in Paso Robles. The two-day fundraiser supports Central Coast cancer patients struggling with medical and household expenses during treatment.

This year’s event — themed “Casino Royal” — marked the 40th anniversary of Saberhagen’s 1985 World Series MVP season. Guests enjoyed casino-style games, fine wine, gourmet dining, live entertainment, and a spirited charity golf tournament. The weekend also featured a star-studded lineup of athletes and celebrities, including Mike Timlin, Chili Davis, Sean Berry, Mark Rypien, Chef Aaron May, Kim Alexis, and David Dravecky, among others.

Emceed for the fourth year by Jonathan Coachman, the event celebrated generosity, resilience, and the community’s dedication to helping those affected by cancer.

SabesWings continues to make a major impact through its mission to “strike out” the financial toxicity that often accompanies a cancer diagnosis. Since its inception, the organization has raised millions to directly assist patients across the nation.

The Saberhagens expressed gratitude to this year’s national and local MVP sponsors, including Republic National Distributing Company and Adams Cable Equipment, as well as the organization’s Celebrity Advisory Board, whose support helps make the event a success year after year.

In 2025, tourism remains a major driver of jobs, city revenue, and business vitality in North San Luis Obispo County. Visitors fuel our economy by staying in local hotels, dining at restaurants, shopping downtown, and exploring wineries, breweries, and attractions. These dollars don’t just support hospitality businesses — they ripple out to nearly every sector, from retail to transportation to professional services. Tourism-generated tax revenue helps fund essential city services and community projects, reducing the burden on residents. But with both tourists and locals becoming more selective in how they spend, Q4 is a critical window for local businesses to adapt and finish the year on a high note.

Paso Robles VFW Honors The Past, Builds For The Future

In 1899, in Columbus, Ohio 13 veterans of the Spanish- American War came together with a shared vision: to create an organization that would support veterans and their families. From that moment, the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) was born. Today, it has grown into the largest organization dedicated solely to serving those who have served our nation.

You may be wondering, “How does someone actually become part of the VFW?” The truth is, not many can. Only about 1% of Americans ever raise their right hand to serve — and of those, only those who deploy to a conflict zone and return home safely earn the honor of joining the VFW. It is a small but proud group, bonded by sacrifice and service.

From Farm to Table in October

October is always a fun month here with harvest, Pioneer Day, Halloween, and more! Fall is a very busy season for our farmers as the crops they have worked so hard to grow all year are ready for harvest. You can still get some of the last summer berries and juicy tomatoes, but they are going to be replaced by the fall produce this month. Although October is mostly associated with pumpkins, there are many delicious fruits and vegetables that celebrate the fall season.
