Over the last few weeks, I've been working on some new things to keep myself busy. One reason is to help keep my mind occupied after losing my father and my aunt in the same year. Those two losses changed my life and truly broke my heart.
Some of you know my story, and some of you don't. My father, Obie Brown Jr., passed away from pancreatic cancer on January 23, 2023 . He began smoking and drinking at the age of 14 and never stopped. When my family first learned he had pancreatic cancer, my mother, my brother, and I were devastated. It was a long and difficult journey.
By the grace of God, my father lived longer than many people diagnosed with this disease. Sadly, pancreatic Cancer is often aggravating, and many families have very little time with their loved ones after diagnosis.
Adore my father's illness, he was unable to work , and my mother stayed home to care for him. There were days when finances were extremely difficult. We worried about gas to get to appointments, everyday expenses, and simply making it through. We are forever grateful to God, our family, friends, and everyone who helped us along the way.
Because of that experience, I have decided to launch the Obie Brown Jr. Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Initiative under Look At Me Now Ministries Empowerment.
My heart is to raise awareness, educate the community, and support families walking this difficult journey. I know I can't do everything, but if I can ease someone's burden, encourage a family, or provide even a little help, then this initiative is worth it .
Our first awareness event will take place this November during Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month. More details will be coming soon.
Please keep this vision in your prayers, and most importantly, please pray for every individual and family affected by pancreatic cancer.
