East Islip has enjoyed four consecutive deep playoff runs in Suffolk Class AA girls soccer, including a county championship in 2021, and coach Ben Diallo is looking for the Redmen to be part of the title conversation once again, despite only three seniors on the roster.
“Overall, it’s a young team, but we’ve got three outstanding seniors to lead us,” said Diallo, referring to Krista Deutsch, Danika Tidridge and Caylin Talt.

Officials conducted a commemorative lighting of the Town Hall cupola, which will be lit purple for the month of September in honor of recovery and mental health awareness. Islip residents are invited to stand with this movement and watch the town go purple. Islip Goes Purple flags will be displayed on Main Street and across school campuses, New York State will light landmarks purple across the state, and local businesses and civic and community groups are asked to spread the word and join in displaying purple.

Catherine Brudi was a field hockey star at West Islip High School and since graduating in 2016, she’s now back helping other girls with their craft nearly a decade later. In July, more than 30 girls, grades 2 through 12, participated at the high school for a week-long camp which helped grow their field hockey skills with games, clinics and fun. Brudi named it Self-Made Field Hockey and she plans for this past summer’s to be the first annual event, continuing into next year.
