It's f*cked, right?
MIL was over for Easter dinner with a warming mat for the food. Apparently too hot for my silestone counter that made a pop noise and cracked all the way through.

Fixable or do I get the pleasure of paying to replace this?

Slabs ruined after honing
I spent 6 months trying to find the right slabs. Finally found a quartzite that I loved. It was polished and I wanted it honed. My contractor took it to their honing place and it came back looking terrible. My contractor took it back and it now has come back looking even worse. The honing guy is blaming the slab place for using some kind of chemical to seal it and says my slab yard is shady. I’m not sure what to do but I’m devastated. Can this be salvaged? Any advice?

This is why we brought samples home
Hanstone Quartz Calacatta Extra, ~60 minutes with turmeric. This is just a wipe with water. It cleaned up okay wirh a cleaning product, but my spouse thinks the fact that water alone didn’t help means the turmeric penetrated and will build up over time. Is that correct?

We are also testing porcelain (which they were pushing hard in the stores we visited) and solid surface (which I had to order online). I also did some laminate tests, but my spouse is opposed.

What do you think? Was I wrong to choose marble? No concerns. Sealed with etch and stain protection.

Is there such a thing as “special glue” strong enough to anchor a cantilevered quartz breakfast bar?
My contractor did a terrible job installing a breakfast bar, and he is going to redo the work. On the first try, he used this janky piece of plywood to support an 8 ft.² piece of 3 cm quartz that’s cantilevered to a 20 inch overhang. (in addition to being unacceptably ugly, the plywood isn’t even working because it’s already buckling the drywall and I can literally wiggle the countertop in place) He told me that when he reinstalls it, he can get “special glue” that is strong enough to anchor this breakfast bar without corbels, brackets, strengthening the pony wall, or any other additional support. I am 99% sure that he is bullsh*tting me about the glue, because I’ve been doing my own research on how to support this countertop and nothing I’ve found has mentioned glue. So is this a thing or is he still bullsh*tting?

contractor f’d me over on granite countertop. wwyd?
Im really upset about how much money I wasted on this, and how bad I got screwed, so please be gentle:

Contractor told me the basin cabinet couldn’t be centered under the window because the right corner unit only comes in one size. OK. I asked if the counter could at least be cut so that the sink would be centered under the window, set to the right side of the basin cab (like in the 2nd pic, before remodel). He said yes.

Today, his counter guys showed up to install. Turns out they cut it so that it was centered in the cab, not aligned with the window. I think it looks weird and bad. I’m having it out with the contractor over text.

He’s telling me now that it was not possible to do it the way I asked. But he never told me that. Like how do you just not do what the client asks for, not tell them and have the thing installed anyway? I don’t believe that it wasn’t possible either. I would have gone with a smaller sink if that was the issue.

Does it look as sh*tty and weird as I think it does, or am I overreacting? What can I do now?

(also please don’t focus on the uppers, I’m dealing with those later. thanks)

Is this extra piece of stone normal to add?
This just looks weird to me, like someone added this piece of stone to cover up a mistake. GC is saying he does this for every kitchen because there's no way to get the counter flush to the cabinet wall. They were going to use tile but the gap was too big and tile too thin. The fabricator templated after the cabinet faceplates were installed. I don't understand this at all. Does it not look as bad as I think and I should just leave it?

Kerdi Shower pan coloration change after water test
I just finished my 24 hour water test and the water may have been a millimeter or half a millimeter lower than right when I took the picture but my curly band also had some wicking up the wall just a bit so I’m counting for that and saying it was not leaking, but what’s odd is in some places, the curry is a very similar color to what it was out of the box and in other places it looks bright orange and it’s wet to the touch. Is this OK or do I need to do something else before I put down tile? You could see it here on the pre-sloped shower pan and in the corner the inside corners appear to have absorbed the water and change the coloring, but the curly band looks like it does out of the box.

Shower Pan offset drain
I dry fit the shower pan but not until after drain install and laying self leveler. Is there a way to set the drain without changing the plumbing?
