Virginia Boyles was among more than 150 people who went to the Baskervill Food Pantry’s emergency food distribution last weekend. Boyles, who lives in Georgetown, said she visits the pantry at least once a month.

The food pantry will host another emergency food distribution tomorrow, Nov. 15 at 10 a.m.

“This is really helping me, and with the holidays coming up. I do want to do a little something for my family,” she said.

Eyes lowered, hands pressed together, the angel stood between the twin garage doors in front of Elizabeth Gregg’s house in The Reserve for 15 years. It was a gift from a friend, a former Marine who put it there to watch over Gregg if he could not.

Her friend is no longer here, and it is Gregg who is looking after the angel, trying to get it back to where it stood watch until her homeowners association told her last year it didn’t comply with its rules.

The state Supreme Court has upheld Georgetown County’s approval of a zoning change that allowed construction of a new restaurant at Marlin Quay Marina, saying even if the county didn’t make the best decision the courts aren’t planners.

The unanimous opinion handed down last week came seven years after County Council approved the change to the “planned development” zoning at Marlin Quay and a year after the court heard arguments in the lawsuit seeking to overturn that decision.

The Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office won’t enter into an agreement to provide law enforcement for a proposed municipality in the Pawleys Island-Litchfield area. The decision last week by Sheriff Carter Weaver leaves proponents of the incorporation effort without a key element required by state law.

📸 Sheriff Carter Weaver said he will work with a new town, if voters approve one, but doesn’t have the resources to serve as its police department.
