With regard to the Illinois vs Texas tornado post. I figured I'd make a post to clear up the confusion. We posted that Illinois has the lead for 2025 in tornadoes with 126 (now 127!) while Texas had 125. A lot of you have posted a graphic showing 162 for Texas and 141 for Illinois.

The difference is one of the maps is tornado reports and the other is actual surveyed tracks. A lot of times some of the same tornadoes are documented more than once which counts as a separate report but of the same tornado.

I hope this clears up some of the confusion, and if you don't care or still think we're wrong, please comment and boost our interactions anyway :evil smirk:

Daylight Gains Begin! ☀️

Now that we’ve passed the winter solstice—the day with the least amount of daylight and the longest night of the year—and are moving beyond the holidays into the new year, daylight hours will begin to steadily increase starting this month.

Overall, we’ll gain between 40–50 minutes of daylight across the state in January!

New Year’s Day Forecast 🥳🎉

Illinois is starting the New Year with a forecast that says, “I’m not exciting, but I am reliable.” Consider it weather with good intentions.

🌡️ Temperatures
•Northern Illinois: 10’s and 20’s —Brisk enough to remind you that winter didn’t make a New Year’s resolution to go easy on us.
•Central Illinois: 20’s and 30’s — Still chilly, but at least it’s trying to meet winter halfway.
•Southern Illinois: Upper 30’s to near 50 — Casually reminding everyone that geography matters.

❄️ Precipitation
Dry conditions will dominate statewide, so no messy weather hangovers expected. That said, far Northeastern Illinois could catch a few stray snow flurries or a quick snow shower between late morning and the late afternoon — nothing more than winter tossing some confetti for the New Year.

It’s a quiet start to the year — perfect for naps, leftovers, and easing into those resolutions like “I’ll start next week.”

December 30th NOAA drought monitor update… 🏜️

The NOAA drought monitor update for this week is in, and it shows a couple of notable changes. Thanks to beneficial rainfall last weekend, there has been some improvement in conditions across a decent portion of Northern and Central Illinois. On the flip side, there has been a worsening of conditions across portions of Southern Illinois. Overall, much of Illinois continues to experience abnormally dry (D0) to extreme drought (D3) conditions.

Looking ahead, while there will be upcoming chances of lighter precipitation over the next week or so across portions of the state, no sort of drought busting snow/rain is in sight.

About ISC!

Illinois Storm Chasers, LLC was born in late 2014 by local storm chasers Adam Lucio and Danny Neal The ISC page grew quickly. Adam and Danny, in addition to providing frequent weather coverage on social media, began speaking across the state to further educate the public. These speaking arrangements include everything from spotter training at local fire departments, to job fairs at schools, to specialized talks for fishing and golfing clubs. As things continued to grow and expand, the workload started to pile on. Adam and Danny love what they do, but when an entire state depends on them for daily coverage things get tough - especially when trying to work a “real job” and balance other “normal life” stuff. In 2017 they began expanding their team to include well seasoned, trusted local meteorologists and storm chasers. The page continues to grow and is now Illinois’ #1 source (via fb likes) for trusted weather information. To try and further support their growing enterprise, ISC launched a patreon account with the hopes of operating ISC full time and further expanding/improving their services. If you would like to support ISC (and get rewards for doing so) please visit www.patreon.com/illinoisstormchasers to learn more. If Adam and Danny reach their primary goal, they plan to host an annual weather conference in the state of Illinois!
