I deejayed for a middle school dance this weekend. I had a couple song requests from the kids for this song. It seemed a little strange since it’s a 35-year-old song, but I went with it anyways. Well, I didn’t expect this kind of reaction!

What’s interesting was earlier in the evening, a teacher/chaperone came up to me to request more current music for the kids since I was playing a few 80s dance songs, which the kids were actually dancing to. I was just playing some songs that were in the Trolls and Sing movies, so it seemed “current” to me. This Rick Astley song really was a curve ball for me. I thought I was getting punked by playing the “Rick Roll” song, but this was a pleasant surprise. I guess this proves that some songs may not be “current” but are certainly timeless.

Nonetheless, I’m happy to see more and more school dances are coming back. The teachers and students were excited to have this sense of normalcy back again. 🕺 💃

I had fun DJ’ing a Sunday brunch wedding a couple weeks ago at The Springs event center near Katy. The weather cooperated nicely for the outdoor ceremony, and the reception looked beautiful. Chicken & waffles and eggs for the brunch, make-your-own donut station, open bar, photo booth, and lots of good 2-stepping!

First time DJ'ing a wedding since the quarantine earlier this year, and it was an awesome fun time! The newlyweds Josh and Caroline were great to work with, and the family & friends all enjoyed getting out there and dancing. The venue was Red Oak Ballroom at Town & Country City Center, really nice.

It seems like a long time since I brought out the turntables, but it’s a nice day to be out playing music for our neighborhood’s Oktoberfest party. Looking forward to more DJ events coming next month. I’ll keep you posted.

I was DJ for a school staff Christmas party tonight. I kept a nice, clean setup with lighted scrims covering the speaker tripods. Also, the subwoofer was hidden under my table which filled out the bottom end for the small room.

I had fun DJ’ing a wedding reception last night, using some uplights to highlight the brick walls in this old warehouse building. The only problem with this old building is there was no elevator. And the reception space was on the second floor. I had to make some compromises, like no subwoofers, but it turned out alright in the end. Plus I got a super workout, carrying 40 lb speakers and equipment up and down. I’m the stair master!
