On Friday we celebrated the retirement of Lieutenant Peter Reynolds, a lifelong Pelham resident who has dedicated nearly three decades to the Village of Pelham Fire Department.

Lt. Reynolds began his career on September 9, 1998, and rose through the ranks to become a Lieutenant in 2013. In 2016, he was appointed as the department’s Fire Inspector. Over the years, he earned multiple commendations for his actions during both fire and medical emergencies.

Lt. Reynolds was a proud and active member of Local 2213, serving in leadership roles including Vice President and President. He also played a key role in supporting the Lt. Joe Leavey Foundation and helped organize several community softball tournaments that brought people together for a good cause and honoring the memory of FDNY Lt. Joseph Leavey.

His legacy of service lives on through his son Aiden, who is currently attending the Westchester County Fire Academy and following in his father’s footsteps.

We thank Lt. Reynolds for his years of dedication, leadership, and service to the Village of Pelham FD. Wishing him all the best in his well earned retirement!

First known as “Decoration Day,” it began three years after the end of the Civil War when a former Union general called for a way to remember fallen service members. For decades, Americans marked the holiday on May 30. In 1971, the federal government officially designated the last Monday in May as Memorial Day.⁣

Today we honor and remember all the men and women of the armed forces who died defending our freedom. To all the men and women currently serving, Thank You.

Today at 2:39 PM, Engine 5, Pelham EMS, and Pelham PD responded to a construction worker injured on the 5th floor of the Pelham Green site.

Due to the patient’s location on the 5th floor of the construction site and the patient’s condition, Pelham Engine 5’s members requested Pelham Manor FD’s Tower Ladder 3 for patient extrication and manpower. The location posed a significant challenge, as attempting to use the unfinished interior stairs would have created additional risks for the patient and responders. The patient was safely lowered in a Stokes basket and transported to a local trauma center.

Meanwhile, recall personnel in Pelham and Pelham Manor staffed reserve apparatus, providing a zero-lapse in fire protection. Additional EMS crews provided by responded to simultaneous medical calls on 5th and 8th Avenues with Ladder 2 and Engine 5 once the initial incident was complete. All incidents were sucessfuly handled within one hour.

A genuine team effort by everyone involved—another example of interagency coordination at its best!

At approximately 3:30 p.m. today, Engine 5 responded to a reported vehicle fire on the northbound Hutchinson River Parkway alongside our brothers from and .

Upon arrival, crews found a transport bus with an engine compartment fire that had rapidly spread to the passenger area. While our members operated the initial attack line, Pelham Manor Engine 1 quickly established a water supply from a nearby road and stretched a line onto the highway. MVFD assisted with manpower and deployed a second precautionary line. A DOT Help Truck ( )and Westchester County Police Department also on scene, assisted with highway closures to ensure the safety of firefighters operating on the active roadway.

Thankfully, the driver was able to self-evacuate safely, and no passengers were on board. Incidents like this on the Hutchinson River Parkway pose unique challenges due to limited water supply and dry vegetation. Thanks to a quick response and seamless coordination among all responding units, the fire was contained to the vehicle without further extension.
