The Pelican Rapids Memorial Day program took a powerful look at the cost, contradictions and lasting wounds of war.

Vietnam veteran and former Pelican Rapids band director Bernie McKigney spoke candidly about combat, coming home to a divided country, and why veterans must never abandon one another.

The issue also includes photos from the program, the dedication of the relocated war memorial and an original Vietnam-era poem by retired Pelican Rapids art teacher Jim Fletcher.

A group of Pelican Rapids teens has found a temporary place to gather while the future The Bridge Center continues to take shape.

The Youths_PR are meeting in the former Brown Eyed Susan’s building, where they are painting, adding activities and making the space their own while preserving a mural by local artist Paul Johnson. The story looks at how the temporary home is helping teen leaders stay connected as they plan for what comes next.

The local Masonic lodge is helping make sure Pelican Rapids students have food when school is out for the weekend.

Otter Tail Lodge 284 donated $250 to the Pelican Rapids Food Shelf Backpack Program, with plans to contribute more in the fall. The story looks at how the donation helps local children, why youth programs are central to the Masons’ work, and what the lodge is building toward next.

The Viking Track & Field Club wrapped up its fourth season this spring with 105 elementary athletes learning the basics of running, hurdles, relays and more with help from varsity athletes, coaches and community volunteers.

𝘼𝙡𝙨𝙤 𝙞𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙬𝙚𝙚𝙠’𝙨 𝙨𝙥𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙨 𝙘𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙖𝙜𝙚: Pelican Rapids school records fell at the West 6A Sub-Section Meet, and a long list of Viking athletes qualified for the Section 6A Meet at Concordia.

The Pelican Rapids High School Class of 2026 crossed the stage with more than diplomas in hand.

This year’s 59 graduates celebrated friendships, growth, scholarships and futures that will take them in many different directions. From speeches about defining success to a class motto urging graduates to “𝙏𝙖𝙠𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙧𝙞𝙨𝙠 𝙤𝙧 𝙡𝙤𝙨𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙘𝙝𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙚,” commencement marked the close of one chapter and the start of the next.

Valedictorian Ally Thompson addresses the Pelican Rapids High School Class of 2026 during commencement exercises on Friday, May 22. In her speech, Thompson encouraged her classmates to define success on their own terms rather than comparing themselves to the "highlight reels" of others.

A new way to explore Pelican Rapids is now available at the Pelican Rapids Public Library, but there are a few rules to know before you ride.

The long-awaited e-bike rental program has launched, giving adults a chance to ride the Heart of Lakes Trail and get around town in a new way. This week’s issue also includes an Ask a Trooper article breaking down Minnesota’s e-bike laws, including age limits, speed requirements and what legally counts as an e-bike.
