Brian Dewan's filmstrip is up on YOUTUBE!

The Maine Civic Halls Initiative, a shared project of Maine Preservation, Friends of Liberty Hall, and Greenhorns seeks to support the role of civic halls as critical rural community-building resources in Maine.

Beginning in 2022, we initiated a survey to inventory and connect halls and their stewards, which you can find online here: https://greenhorns.org/wp-content/upl... Find out more at: https://greenhorns.org/civichalls/

Throughout summer 2024, Greenhorns Artist-in-Residence Brian Dewan visited Downeast Maine to prepare and to perform this hand-animated filmstrip documenting the history and needs of civic halls. This is the latest addition to his beloved I-CAN-SEE filmstrip project, communicating similar themes. The goal of this film is to provoke conversation and imagination within communities that care for these spaces.

Brian has previously collaborated with Greenhorns to record the album GRANGE FUTURE: Songs of the Patrons of Husbandry -- which you can listen to here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list...

Are you a hall steward? Check out our resources sheet online: chrome-extension://efaidnbmnnnibpcajpcglclefindmkaj/https://greenhorns.org/wp-content/upl...

We are looking for people to get involved and help with collaborative grant-writing. Reach out to [email protected] if you are interested.

We had a wonderful LOW LOW TIDES harvest workshop this month, an excellent group guided by our seaweed harvest captain Kacie Loparto. Thank you Betsy Tesh for these great photos.

Join us for our next and final LOW LOW TIDES harvest of 2024, coming up May 8-12. We can teach you, curious first-timer! We welcome beginners with open arms.

We can also help you obtain the correct licensing to become a proper harvester, if you want to stay for a few days and learn the entire process. We help with housing and coordinate shared meals.

Algae for all!
