Have you noticed something in your neighborhood? Maybe you’ve seen a few pumpkins……. A 12-foot tall skeleton in someone’s yard…… and fall and Halloween decorations are already at Michael's at Pottery Barn. It’s because people are starting to celebrate fall and Halloween sooner than EVER! According to Axios News, the "Halloween season" has gotten longer. Before the pandemic, the enthusiasm for candy and giant skeletons lasted for about six weeks, starting mid-September and ending on Halloween, October 31st……🎃

Flash forward to today, and fall and Halloween are starting 10 to 12 weeks sooner! The National Confectioners Association says people are buying bags of Halloween candy to eat now! 🍬

So why are people eager to start hanging their fall decorations when it’s still 100º degrees outside? Simple: It’s fun. It makes people happy. And we humans love to celebrate. 🍂

Your New Year's resolution is probably long forgotten. But you may want to make a SUMMER resolution! That’s the advice of social psychologist Dr. Janina Steinmetz. And here’s why she says summer resolutions are better than New Year’s ones. 🎆

First, it’s finite. You’re done as of Labor Day. Or you can push it to the actual end of summer, September 22nd this year. So there’s less to commit to, which makes it less daunting. 📅

Summer resolutions are also easier to keep. Almost every kind of healthy habit is easier to maintain during sunny, warm weather. For example, it’s much more appealing to eat a cold, crisp salad in July than January. It’s also easier to go for a bike ride every day when you don't have to bundle up like the Michelin Man. And if your resolution is to work on a personal project - or even take a class - most people have lighter work schedules in summer - like Friday’s off. So you’ll have more time to work on something. ☀️

One more reason summer resolutions are better? We’re happier when the weather is nice and the days are longer. And when we're happier, it's easier to stick to a new behavior pattern. 😀

So it’s swelteringly hot outside and your car is like an oven. 🥵

Do you crank the AC for a few minutes before getting in and driving away? No. Get in the car, crank the AC and just start driving. That’s the recommendation from Consumer Reports. They say air conditioning works best when the car is in motion, rather than when it’s idle. That’s because, the faster the engine turns, the faster the air compressor runs. But when you first get in the car, open the rear windows for 10 to 20 seconds. That’ll help vent out the hot air faster. 🚗

And if you have a car with “eco mode,” where the engine shuts down to save fuel at stop lights, turn it off. Because it shuts down the engine and the air compressor when you stop, so your car will constantly be cooling and then heating up again. 🚦

Well, according to the University of Connecticut, when we participate in annual traditions, we feel less stress. Because those types of benchmarks and rituals give our brains structure, regularity and predictability……all of which makes us feel more in-control. And when we feel in-control, it’s easier to cope with life’s ups and downs. 🚤🍺🇺🇸
