Celebrating Sixty-Nine Years Of Marriage

On Sept. 4, longtime Pennsauken residents Martin and Nelly Arnold will be married 69 years.

The still happy couple arrived in Pennsauken from Amsterdam in the Netherlands in 1957. Martin opened Arnold Safe and Lock Co. along Park Ave. in 1963, a longtime township business that moved to Haddonfield Rd. in 2009. A homemaker, Nelly helped take care of their three children, Martin Jr., Nancy, and Nelly. The Arnolds are blessed to have four grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. According to the National Cancer Institute, an estimated 9,550 children ages 0–14 were diagnosed with cancer in 2025. Pennsauken resident Daniela Tavarez is navigating the cancer journey of her son, Caius, who is being treated for high-risk B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

During this battle, she was inspired to create Caius Golden Bell of Hope, a nonprofit to help children celebrate important milestones in their treatment with a simple, but powerful request: their favorite meal.

Between 10:00 a.m. and noon today, visitors to Pennsauken's Starbucks, 2501 Merchantville Ave., will be treated to a free cup of coffee, courtesy of the Pennsauken Township Police Department. The ongoing "Coffee with a Cop" outreach program is designed to help strengthen the relationship with Township officers and the the community they proudly serve. Come out and ask question, share a concern, or just stop by to say hello!
