Am I wrong for telling my parents they shouldn't force themselves to attend my wedding? My relatives are blowing up my phone right now, calling me a heartless daughter. They say I broke my mother's heart and ruined what was supposed to be the most important day of her life. If you only heard their side, I sound like an ungrateful brat who barred her own parents from her big day. But there is a lot they left out of their sob story. They aren't telling anyone about what my parents actually demanded for my reception. They are also conveniently leaving out the threat they tried to use to force my hand. My fiancé and I just wanted a simple, stress-free day at a lake house with fifty close friends. I even bought a cheap beach dress, and we planned a casual backyard cookout with cupcakes. That wasn't good enough for my parents, because they only care about keeping up appearances. They wanted a country club, a giant band, and hundreds of strangers. The cold way my mother looked at me when she delivered her ultimatum still makes my chest tight.
