Escambia County is asking voters to undo a 2018 decision — during the primary election most of them skip.

Commissioners voted 4-1 to place the elected vs. appointed Escambia County Public Schools superintendent referendum on the August 18 primary ballot. In 2024, that primary drew 48,000 voters. The general election drew 164,000. Commissioner Lumon May cast the lone dissenting vote and called the timing politically motivated.
