Almost a literal ton of food! Our community partner Feeding the Gulf Coast reached out and said they had 1,600 pounds of food to donate to Camp O. Frozen foods of all kinds. Big O Ashley and Kim headed over and we all met at their gigantic warehouse in Milton. It’s a very impressive operation and the staff are all wonderful people.

We loaded up all 3 vehicles top to bottom and ventured back to Camp. After unloading it, we realized this was way too much. We passed out a lot to the unsheltered neighbors, then Big O Kim loaded up her car again and brought food to donate to our friends at Bright Bridge Ministries, who provide hot meals everyday to unsheltered neighbors. They run a variety other programs including men’s housing and the “earn a bike” program, where individuals can work in the kitchen in exchange for a bike.

There was still more, so Kim headed over to Heavenly Blessings, a low-barrier shelter that houses several people every night. But wait... there’s more. Big O Kim loaded up one more time and brought food to one of our favorite places, the Alfred-Washburn Center. Washburn is a staple in the unsheltered community as a day center in Pensacola where unsheltered citizens receive food, clothing, showers, mail, and laundry. It is one of our area’s most vital resources when it comes to the unhoused community.
